Black's Game-Losing Mistakes

Black's game-losing mistakes appear to be ...

  • 4...d5, this move appears to be the catalyst for Black's demise, as it seems to focus on Bc4 and e4-Pawn as being the greatest of all threats, while neglecting Ng5, which is sacrificed in three plies, serving two exacting purposes for White:

    1. To remove the guard (Black's f7-Pawn);
    2. Force Black's King to capture, to save his Queen and Rh8, which are caught in a Fork Attack, by White's Nf7.

  • 5...Nxd5, probably a result of Black's continued failure to spot the true intentions of White's Ng5, as explained, (above).

    With 4...d5 being the first of Black's failings, Black needed to be alert to the potential for White's Queen to go to f3, via the open d1-h5 diagonal, in addition to the ideal position of Ng5 to inflict the Fork Attack on Qd8 & Rh8, while also 'removing the f7-Pawn'.

    Again, as seen in some of the other Checkmate Opening defeats for Black (e.g. Modern Defence example), Black's problems seem to come down to the ignorance of leaving the King as the sole defender of the f7-Pawn!

    Black appears to be fighting a losing battle from here, onwards.
