- Offside Majority v. Minority Attack
The term “Offside,” here, refers to being the opposite side of the board to where the adverse Kings are positioned.
An Offside Pawn Majority is a Pawn Majority on the opposite side of the board (to where the adverse King is positioned), as seen in Diagram 1, below, where the occurrence happens on the Queenside of the board.
Diagram 1: White has the Offside Pawn Majority,
on the Queenside of the board.
When analyzing this element, it only scores a plus point if it is not subject to an Immobilizing Minority Attack. In Diagram 2, below, we see Black’s Minority on the attacking White’s Offside Majority …
Diagram 2: White’s Offside Pawn Majority,
subject to a Minority Attack, but NOT
an Immobilizing Minority Attack.
However, in this situation, one of White’s three Pawns can emerge from the attack to become a Passed Pawn. Therefore, the Minority Attack doesn’t immobilize all of White’s Pawn Majority.
