It's one of two examples of how the King can get into serious trouble if it isn't given space to escape.

Both this King's and (the second) Queen's Pawn version are a victory for the counter-attacking Black army.

    White advances his King's Pawn to e4 ... Black does likewise, but to e5.

    White move his King-side kNight to e2, just infront of his King ... Black's response is to bring his Queen-side kNight out to c6.

  • Move 3,
    [Timeline, 0:29],
    White brings his Queen-side kNight out to c3 ... Black's response to prepare for victory by pushing his active kNight to d4.

  • Move 4,
    [Timeline, 0:39],
    This is where White MAKES HIS FATAL ERROR! His King is already blocked in; rather than leaving room for a quick exit, he chooses instead to move his g2 Pawn to g3 ... Black's kNight gallops onto f6, Checkmate (#), Good kNight Vienna.
