The Discovered Attack
[Introduction]

Chess Tactics Teaser - Discovered Attack Tactic An attack is deemed as "Discovered" when one piece moves, to attack another and, in doing so, reveals a piece behind which suddenly has direct line of sight to threaten another of your opponent's pieces.

When the uncovered piece is in a direct line to threaten the enemy's King, it is often referred to as a "Discovered Check".

The main pieces involved in these Discovery attacks are any two from the:

Knight
Bishop
Rook
(or) Queen

Example 1 (page 2)

White's Qh1 will provide the attack on Black's Rb7, which will be the Discovered Attack, when White puts Black's King in check, with Ne4-f6+.

Example 2 (page 3)

White's Rg2 will provide the attack on Black's Rg6, which will be the Discovered Attack, when White's
Bg3-d6 attacks Black's Nc5.

Example 3 (page 4)

White's Qd1 will provide the attack on Black's Qd4, which will be the Discovered Attack, when White's
Bd3-b5+ puts Black's King in check.
