Strategies and Tactics are commonly confused, by beginners:
Traps have more to do with Tactics; they're played in order to gain some sort of Advantage, such winning an extra Pawn or Piece.
IGM Yasser Seirawan, on pages 50-51 in his book, "Play Winning Chess", warns against deliberately playing to Trap your opponent.
Instead, he advises you focus your efforts on moves that support your army's development.
