Black's Game-Losing Mistakes

Black's game-losing mistakes appear to be ...

  • 4...Bf5, from this point onwards, White's moves began to boss the game through to victory, so this move seems to be one of the prime suspects that begun Black's demise.

I had a look at this with Fritz 12 and 4...g6 appeared to be the better option, with the following sequence looking much more solid for Black (certainly getting further than Black managed in the actual Checkmate Opening!):

    4...g6 5. Bc4 Bg7 6. d4 Nf6 7. Ng3 Nbd7 8. O-O O-O 9. Bb3 a5 10. a4 Nb6 11. h3 Nbd5 12. Bg5 Re8 13. Re1 Qc7 14. Qd2 Be6

Regarding 5...Bg6, there wasn't much else on for Black, but this second move of the light-Bishop means Black falls further behind in the development race, reinforcing my opinion that 4...Bf5 was the first game-losing mistake played by Black.

Black seemed on the ropes from his 5th Move onwards, desperately trying to avoid losing his light-Bishop, seemingly incapable of coordinating any decent defensive answer or counterattacking threat White's moves.
